Meditation March at Yoga Life Studio

to Mar 31

Meditation March at Yoga Life Studio

It’s time for our Annual Meditation March!

"Meditation means dissolving the invisible walls that unawareness has built." - Sadhguru

All classes during the month of March INCLUDE 5 minutes of meditation after Savasana. This brings you the opportunity to sit in the silent transition between your practice and the rest of your day; you will find a literal “pause for presence”.

Through meditation students are steeped in the immediate benefit their Yama (ethics), Niyama (self-discipline), asana (posture), and pranayama (breath) practices bring while elevating them to the “inner” limbs of the Ashtanga practice. These more inwardly focused limbs include: Pratyahara (sense withdrawal), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (Meditation), and Samadhi (Bliss). The state of Meditation we enter bridges the gap between individual and universal consciousness which is an indispensable skill we can each build.

If you have been interested in meditation and don’t quite know where to begin we will explore various styles like Vippassana, Guided, Metta, Quiet and Visualizations or Imagery to name a few. We hope this month provides you more opportunity for self-exploration and understanding.

Spring Reset: A Restorative Yoga Workshop

$30

Restorative yoga offers us a unique opportunity to rest the body, mind and spirit. Through the use of various yoga props, the body is effortlessly supported allowing you to hold the poses longer, breathe clearer and relax deeply and completely. Different from Yin yoga, where stress is placed on the body in a passive way, in restorative there is nothing to do but allow yourself to literally “settle in”. Through stillness of the body, awareness moves with ease and from the depth of your awareness, your inner voice speaks.

Join Lisa in this workshop to understand the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS), how it impacts the body, and the effects of deep relaxation and silence on the PSNS. After an introduction to the Restorative purpose, use of props, and the postures, Lisa will take you through a restorative sequence designed for basic relaxation. You will leave feeling relaxed, renewed, and educated on why restoring yourself is a vital tool we all need.

Yoga Sutras of Patanjali Study Group

Tuesday evenings from 5-6pm | April 2nd - 30th

Join your Yoga Life community to dive into the philosophy of our 8 limbed practice and bring more of a Yogic approach to your life!

Knowing "why" we do what we do, helps put meaning or intention behind our action. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali do just that. These 5 weeks of studying the sutras will be solely focused on the foundation. We will cover as much of the book as we can and leave plenty of room for discussion and sharing. We will use the translation by Sri Swami Satchidananda, which is available for purchase in-studio. It is beneficial to have your very own copy to highlight and/or take notes in. A journal and pen are good to have too.

When we can more deeply understand the purpose behind the practice, our time on our mat has more meaning. All are welcome - no yoga or sutra experience required. Regular class rates apply. Class pass may be used.

Pranayama: The fourth limb of Yoga workshop

$20

This workshop will focus on our breath and the power it holds. The practice of breath control is the fourth limb of the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga.

Prana is the universal energy that flows through us and everything around us. This energy creates, sustains, and destroys because it permeates everything and is considered the "breath of life".

Pranayama practices manipulate this force within us creating profound shifts in the mind and energy of the body. Most of us are familiar with Ujjayi breath, but in this workshop, we will explore various pranayama techniques to unlock the potential you hold and elevate your physical yoga practice.

We will focus on:

*Breakdown of the 4th limb

*Koshas: 5 layers of Being

*Pranayama techniques

*How to integrate pranayama into our existing practices and lives

*Final Meditation

The Mysticism of World Cultures Workshop with Paul Tootalian

The Mysticism of World Cultures Workshop with Paul Tootalian

$35

There is a common thread that links the mystical core of all the major spiritual traditions of the world. This ubiquitous, worldwide phenomenon connects Shamanism in its classic form from the tribal societies of Native North America, Polynesia, Africa and other parts of the world to mystics like Saint Teresa of Avila all the way up to the mindfulness revolution currently sweeping our nation. Beyond the spirituality of the thought and the spirituality of feeling is a third type of spirituality, a rare spirituality shared by people familiar with the cultivation of high states of concentration; this is the state the Buddhists call Samadhi, Judaism refers to as Kavanah, Islam as Zikr, and Taosim as Showee ~ “to hold to or preserve oneness”.

In this workshop, an introduction to the practices and retreats at South Haven’s Higher Haven Retreat Center, Meditation Teacher and Ceremonial Leader Paul Tootalian takes an approach to the Shamanic realms of power that explores the six senses, combining equal parts profound inner silence merged with mighty sound healing. If you've ever desired establishing or strengthening a regular meditation practice to tap into the miraculous benefits of mindfulness you’ll enjoy this technique, as empowering mind-training practices will be taught together with sacred, healing songs to energetically uplift yourself and others.

Come, feel the spirited elevation of Matakuye O'yasin – meaning "We are all related" – & experience the interconnected oneness we share as natives to planet earth.

Fresh Start Yin + Restorative

Join Cheryl Weise New Year's Day for a FRESH START with Yin + Restorative within one class!
Restorative asanas, or postures, are relaxing and intended to be healing and nurturing for the body relieving stress. Within this style, you will restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. Yin is the cool, lunar, passive aspect of the yoga asana practice. Asanas are held for 3-10 minutes to allow the denser layers of the body to unwind. Yin opens the connective tissues versus the muscles and allows practitioners to experience greater range of motion and flexibility. Props are used to support the entire body in postures, while gently aiding the body in relaxation. Together, these two styles of yoga asana will enable you to move slowly, turn inward, and heal. You will access the stillness of your mind and move into your New Year with clarity and peace. All-levels welcome. Regular class rates apply.

108 Sun Salutations for Winter Solstice with Nicole

Gather with us on the darkest night of the year with the light in our hearts to set our intentions for what is to come. In eastern philosophy the number 108 is considered a number that represents a complete cycle and is the ultimate end of an event or phenomenon. So, for this reason it is common to do 108 rounds of something meaningful to you on auspicious occasions.

As a community, we will practice 108 Sun Salutations to honor this powerful ritual and tradition. We practice this repetition with focus and intention. Just as any repetitive task in life can lead us to boredom and restlessness, we can learn how to come back to our intention and physically work mindfully and smarter, rather than harder, which are all great lessons for ourselves as we move into a new year. We will finish with a brief meditation letting the lessons we learn on our mat this day resonate within us.

You don't have to practice all 108 Sun Salutations, your presence is enough. All- Levels welcome. Class passes may be used or drop-in rates apply.

Join Brooke’s Teacher, Hilaire Lockwood for this special opportunity to dig deep into the philosophy of Yoga.

Sometimes knowing "why" we do something helps put meaning or intention behind our action. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali do just that. This one-day intensive for students and instructors alike will be solely focused on the foundation of the yoga practice, its roots and its meaning - all that lies within the 3,000-year-old Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Over the two-hour period we will cover as much of the book as possible, relating the foundation of yoga to our life off the mat. When we can more deeply understand the purpose behind the practice, our time on our mat has more meaning. All are welcome - no yoga or sutra experience required.

Donation Class for Emma

In May 2018 Emma Grace Straub, age 9, was diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis, a condition in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells, leading to inflammation.  Emma now suffers from numerous cognitive deficits and debilitating psychiatric symptoms.  The only treatment is a regular schedule of IV infusions of blood plasma ("IVIG") over the next 15 months. Not only has IVIG been proven to work for Emma, but her team of expert physicians and hospital agree that she desperately needs this treatment.

Unfortunately, this treatment is very costly so together, let’s help Emma and her family by donating what we can. Kelly is graciously offering a donation-based class with all proceeds going to Emma. Our suggested donation is $10-$15 per person. Cash only. Thank you for your help!

THANKSgiving Day Vinyasa

Cordelia will guide us through our practice on this day of thanks as we come together and bring into our hearts what we are grateful for. The benefits of practicing gratitude are nearly endless. People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems.

This all-level class will focus on cultivating an attitude of gratitude towards whatever it is you are thankful to have in your life. Everyone will leave feeling relaxed, peaceful, more alive, and able to head into our holiday to spread our love and gratitude to each individual we encounter.

Drop-in rates apply or class passes can be used.
